|We would like to invite you to join us in Port-en-Bessin for D-Day 78 5th- 9th June 2022As part of enhancing the activities for the Royal Marines Association it has been decided to take a number of RMA members to France to partake in the D-Day celebrations in 2022. Phil Gilby MBE will be the nominated Operations Director for all RMA-TRMC D-Day 78 related matters.|
RMA D-Day 78 will take place from 05-09 Jun 22 and will be based in Port-en-Bessin which was liberated on the 7 June 1944 by 47 Commando Royal Marines.
Tickets will cost £190 per head. Accommodation The Coach trip will be accommodated at Résidence Pierre & Vacances Green Beach reservation. These are holiday apartments which are located all together which includes an indoor and outdoor swimming pool. Please note, the apartments are on two floors and do not have a lift however there is a fold down bed on the ground floor. The rooms are a selection of double and twin rooms. Disabled rooms can be discussed.
Food With the exception of lunch during the battlefield tour day, all participants will be self-catering or eating out.
Eligibility for the trip The trip is open to all members of the Royal Marines Association.
Coach The Coach will leave from Portsmouth at 0640 on the 05 June and return to Portsmouth at 2115 on the 09 June. Car parking will be available in Portsmouth. PROGRAMME
Sat 04 June – Advance party departs for France.
Those people that need to travel on Thu 04 June are responsible for organising their own accommodation
Sun 05 June – Main body leave Portsmouth for Caen.
Mon 06 June – Two group split: Complete the 47 Cdo insertion yomp from Gold Beach into Port-en-Bessin (12 miles). Those people who do not wish to conduct the yomp will have the opportunity to conduct a cultural day and RV with the Yompers at key points.
Tue 07 June – Conduct the 3 Parades, Mayors Reception and enjoy the D-Day celebrations in Port-en-Bessin.
Wed 08 June – Battlefield Tour Day
Thu 09 June – Leave Port-en-Bessin and conduct and conduct a couple of visits on route to the ferry. Depart France at 1630 from Caen arriving at 2115 in Portsmouth. 40th Anniversary of the Falklands
|Portsmouth City Council have thrown open the doors of their historic naval city to host a packed weekend to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Falklands conflict.|
After being awarded a very generous grant from the RNRMC we are able to offer this weekend on an almost completely free basis to our members for their food and other entertainment.
You will still need to click on the relevant links for tickets, there is one link for all tickets, you can add all of the tickets that you wish and check out once.

This is strictly first come first served and if you wish to attend it is highly advisable to seek accommodation early as this weekend will make the cities hotels and B&B’s very busy indeed.TicketsFriday 17th June 2022Various interest groups from the RNA will have activities going on that day and our RMA respective branch reps will be put in touch with them if they wish to partake. 1930 – Those Falklands veterans who wish to can apply to the membership team for a place at the civic reception being held in their honour in the Portsmouth Guildhall. You must be a holder of the South Atlantic medal and you may also apply for your partner/plus one. Tickets are strictly limited so if you wish to be on that list then please email the membership team at the following email address: firstname.lastname@example.org You can only apply for your own tickets (plus one etc) but not a group.South Atlantic Medal Holders1930 – We would like to invite you to return to the RMA Club (behind the old RM museum) for a curry night (veggie option available). 15.00 – Corps Family parade in the memorial gardens and unveiling of Afghanistan stone
On completion – Hog roast and entertainment at RMA Club Portsmouth. Tickets for food are free but you must have a ticket so we can gauge numbers. Hog RoastAn RNA led symposium taking place behind the wardroom at HMS Nelson from 1130 to 1600 entry is free to this event and we have been allocated 50 places. These will be free but there will be an opportunity for you to make a donation towards them.Sunday 19th June 20221000 – Those wishing to march in the parade gather next to the Ben Ainsley building prior to marching to the service area where the RMA, RNA, WRENS and Falklands vets will receive their freedom scrolls.
OC – March/move to Portsmouth Cathedral for a service followed by refreshments.
OC – Move to RMA Portsmouth club for refreshments and food. The food is free but you will need a ticket so we can judge numbers for catering purposes.
Food & RefreshmentThis entire weekend is not just open to Falklands Veterans but all of the Corps Family. You must however be a member of the RMA to obtain tickets as they have been heavily subsidised (to the point of them being free!) and it is free to join the RMA through the website.

This will be an amazing weekend of memories, comradeship and esprit de corps.
Lets see you there in force and make up for the last two years of not being able to gather together.
It is also hoped to have a ceremony at Shanklin Chine around this time June 2022 to mark this 40th Anniversary. Ann Springman is happy for this to go ahead. More details to follow.
Queens Platinum Jubillee
It is also the Queens Platinum Jubillee this year. Not sure what routine we will have to mark for this event. There will be something. More info to follow.
We have the following event that Hughie Shiel is organising at Cawsand Bay It is hoped to send a contingent from the branch to support Hughie on this. Let me know if you are interested.
Commando 80 Challenge
Part of this event is taking place on the Island 12th to 16th September 2022. We have been asked to support this. 80 marathons in 80 days (Eye watering) one on the Island. This is a very large event that a great deal of resources will be deployed.
Monthly Branch Social evenings
TOTAL BRANCH MEMBERS:
- It was voted in during the Committee Meeting August 2021 that the Monthly Branch Meetings would now follow a new format.
- To encourage more of our members to attend the meeting will now be an informal social evening with no agenda. Please if you wish invite family, friends and guests to attend.
- The Committee will meet on the same evening, starting earlier and finishing in time to social evening

- The Branch now has a cleaning contract with Wight Stonemasons.
- The Memorial will be cleaned once a year prior to the Annual Remembrance Day Service.
