Just a reminder the success of all events and functions will depend on the support and attendance of all our members. We need your help to make events successful.

If you have an event that you would like me to insert on this Web Page please send me the info by email. ( So I don’t get it wrong.) Even if it’s for your own, Charity Event and are looking for sponsorship or help.

Below is a summery of what has been decided for June/July 2022.

June 2,3,4th    RMA gazebo on Sandown sea front. Near “War Memorial”. If passing call in for a chat, or make a donation.

June 5/9th      Garry and Terry off to France (First wave) on D-Day.

June 14th       Falklands Remembrance Service at St Blasius Church at 3pm The laying of wreaths at the War Memorial. Please try and come along to remember our fallen comrades. 27 Royal Marines lost their lives.

June 17/19th  40th Falklands Anniversary at Portsmouth, as previously advertised need to book your  free food at Eastney. Further details below. A number of our members are attending this event.

June 23rd      Signing of Military Covenant On the Island at Cowes Masonic lodge. (Big brass attending) Ian, Martin,Tom, Terry and the standard bearer have been invited.

June 25/26th  County Show Newport. RMA Gazebo Booked in. See you there. This is the first of the shows and we hope to collect a significant amount of donations.

July 2nd   Cawsand This is the event organised by Hughie to commemorate the loss of three Royal Marines drowned  in Cawsand. The committee decided this would be supported by the Branch. Full details below.

July 2nd “Armed Forces Day” We will have some members attending this. It is hoped to erect the RMA Gazebo for this event. More Info to follow.

July 7th   Co-op Supermarket Shanklin, Bucket collect By Martin and Tom.

July  15/16/22/23/29/30th  RMA Gazebo planed to go up on Sandown Sea Front, Just need to apply for licence to bucket collect. A number of dates are planed for in August and September. More info later.

40th Anniversary of the Falklands

Portsmouth City Council have thrown open the doors of their historic naval city to host a packed weekend to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Falklands conflict.

After being awarded a very generous grant from the RNRMC we are able to offer this weekend on an almost completely free basis to our members for their food and other entertainment.

You will still need to click on the relevant links for tickets, there is one link for all tickets, you can add all of the tickets that you wish and check out once.

This is strictly first come first served and if you wish to attend it is highly advisable to seek accommodation early as this weekend will make the cities hotels and B&B’s very busy indeed.TicketsFriday 17th June 2022Various interest groups from the RNA will have activities going on that day and our RMA respective branch reps will be put in touch with them if they wish to partake. 1300 – RMA vs RNA cricket match (location TBC) come and watch the RMA cricket branch play its first game against and RNA side. The bar will be open and good weather has been booked.
1900 – Beat retreat in the Guildhall square.
1930 – Those Falklands veterans who wish to can apply to the membership team for a place at the civic reception being held in their honour in the Portsmouth Guildhall. You must be a holder of the South Atlantic medal and you may also apply for your partner/plus one. Tickets are strictly limited so if you wish to be on that list then please email the membership team at the following email address:  You can only apply for your own tickets (plus one etc) but not a group.South Atlantic Medal Holders1930 – We would like to invite you to return to the RMA Club (behind the old RM museum) for a curry night (veggie option available). The food will be free so you just need your drinks money and your singing voices and dits ready.  You will need to register for a free ticket using the link below so we have a clear number for catering.RMA Club Curry Night1930 – There is a reception to be held on HMS Warrior (near the historic dockyard) that is RNA led but they have offered the RMA up to 50 places.HMS Warrior Reception Tickets Saturday 18th June10.00 –  Riders and cyclists branches depart from the Yomper statue on various rides.
10.30 – RMA FC football match at RMA Club Portsmouth.
15.00 – Corps Family parade in the memorial gardens and unveiling of Afghanistan stone
On completion – Hog roast and entertainment at RMA Club Portsmouth. Tickets for food are free but you must have a ticket so we can gauge numbers. Hog RoastAn RNA led symposium taking place behind the wardroom at HMS Nelson from 1130 to 1600 entry is free to this event and we have been allocated 50 places. If you wish a place at this event please email membership to be added to the list.

There is tea and coffee supplied and sandwiches. These will be free but there will be an opportunity for you to make a donation towards them.Sunday 19th June 20221000 –  Those wishing to march in the parade gather next to the Ben Ainsley building prior to marching to the service area where the RMA, RNA, WRENS and Falklands vets will receive their freedom scrolls.
OC –  March/move to Portsmouth Cathedral for a service followed by refreshments.
OC – Move to RMA Portsmouth club for refreshments and food. The food is free but you will need a ticket so we can judge numbers for catering purposes. 
 Food & RefreshmentThis entire weekend is not just open to Falklands Veterans but all of the Corps Family. You must however be a member of the RMA to obtain tickets as they have been heavily subsidised (to the point of them being free!) and it is free to join the RMA through the website.

 This will be an amazing weekend of memories, comradeship and esprit de corps.
Lets see you there in force and make up for the last two years of not being able to gather together.

Shanklin Chine

It is also hoped to have a ceremony at Shanklin Chine around this time June 2022 to mark this 40th Anniversary. Ann Springman is happy for this to go ahead. More details to follow.

Commemorative Ceremony

We have the following event that Hughie Shiel is organising at Cawsand Bay It is hoped to send a contingent from the branch to support Hughie on this. Let me know if you are interested.

Commando 80 Challenge

Part of this event is taking place on the Island 12th to 16th September 2022. We have been asked to support this. 80 marathons in 80 days (Eye watering) one on the Island. This is a very large event that a great deal of resources will be deployed.

Monthly Branch Social evenings


  • It was voted in during the Committee Meeting August 2021 that the Monthly Branch Meetings would now follow a new format. 
  • To encourage more of our members to attend the meeting will now be an informal social evening with no agenda. Please if you wish invite family, friends and guests to attend.
  • The Committee will meet on the same evening, starting earlier and finishing in time to social evening
  • Total = 45.

  • I have amended the new members joining list from my last Newsletter – Ross Avery is not a New Member, he made a donation to the Branch earlier on in the year.

Just a reminder from Tom Bodman – Vice Chairman / Membership Secretary he has distributed a letter with regards to Subscriptions / Donations to our Branch Fund. A number of our members pay by Direct Debit / Standing Order to TRMC.
